The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill received Postulant Hyeon Nyeon Lee into the congregation’s novitiate on February 25, 2017. Members of the community gathered in the Caritas Christi chapel that afternoon to pray with Hyeon and promise their support as she formalized her relationship with the community as a novice and took on the name, Sister Hyeon.
Sister Catherine Meinert, United States Provincial Superior asked Hyeon, “Dear Sister, what do you ask of us?’
Hyeon replied, “Drawn by God’s loving grace and in the spirit of Vincent de Paul and Elizabeth Ann Seton, I have come to experience your way of life. I ask you to teach me to follow Christ and to live in poverty, chastity, and obedience. Teach me to persevere in prayer and in joyful service to the Church and all people. Teach me to be one with you in heart and mind. Let me learn your rule and the observance of Christ’s law of love in humility, simplicity, and charity.”
Sister Hyeon began her year as a postulant in ministering with the elder sisters and residents of the Elizabeth Seton Memory Care Center at Caritas Christi. Later, she ministered at Elizabeth Seton Center in Pittsburgh focusing primarily on the elderly clients, but also helping with the younger child care participants of the Center’s intergenerational program. During the novitiate period, Sister Hyeon will live a full year devoted to prayer and study about the congregation’s mission, spirituality, and lifestyle. The second year of her novitiate will be devoted to full-time active ministry.
Congratulations to Sister Hyeon as she continues her journey in faith, vocation, and the charism of Charity.
