Mercy Jeannette Hospital
Mercy Jeannette Hospital was established in 1959 as Jeannette District Memorial Hospital by the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in cooperation with the community. Through the years, Mercy Jeannette has continued to expand and improve medical services to keep pace with current health care needs.
Its affiliation with the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System in February 2003 blends the best of two of the finest health care providers in Western Pennsylvania. Both Jeannette and Mercy have always elevated their patient care and service excellence to a higher level of caring.
The mission of Mercy Jeannette Hospital calls it to be a transforming, healing presence in the community. Its core values of reverence for each person; community; justice; commitment to those who are poor; stewardship; courage; and integrity help carry out this mission. While no core value is more important than the other, the hospital’s staff takes seriously its commitment to its community, maintaining strong partnerships with a number of schools and professional organizations in Westmoreland County. Mercy Jeannette Hospital employees practice its core values of community and reverence for each person by serving on local task forces, advisory committees, and boards for various community agencies.
Mercy Jeannette Hospital provides quality, compassionate medical services to 29 zip codes in Western Westmoreland County. Its service area of North Huntingdon is the largest, followed by the City of Jeannette, Penn Township, and Greensburg.
Mercy Jeannette is a 148-bed, full-service, Catholic, community hospital specializing in acute inpatient and outpatient care; emergency care; women’s services, including maternity care in The Family Birth Place and diagnostics services in The Women’s Center; cardiac care; and rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies.
The Sisters of Charity contribute to the ongoing operation and success of Mercy Jeannette through their service to the board of directors. Other sisters frequently serve as volunteers at the hospital and the retired sisters living at Caritas Christi often will target Mercy Jeannette Hospital with their service projects.
