Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill

Who We Are

Sister Catherine Meinert, SC

A Pittsburgh native, Sister Catherine Meinert entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1961, from Saint Joseph Parish, Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. Now in her 50th year of religious life, Sister Catherine serves as Councilor for the United States Province of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, a position to which she was elected in 2007. She is the Canonical Treasurer for the province and the councilor in charge of provincial buildings and grounds. With regard to her ministry as a provincial councilor, Sister Catherine stated, “I find it an honor to work so closely with our sisters and the entire staff that works on the Sister of Charity complex.” Sister Catherine is open to the challenges of her work and approaches her tasks with enthusiasm.

Prior to being elected to the Provincial Council, Sister Catherine served as principal of Conn-Area Catholic School from 1996 to 2007, educational consultant for the Diocese of Pittsburgh from 1982-1996, principal at Saint Therese School, Munhall, Pennsylvania, from 1973 to1982, and teacher in the Pittsburgh and Greensburg dioceses and the archdiocese of Washington D.C., from 1963-1973. In 1990, Sister Catherine was elected to the Executive Committee of the National Catholic Education Association. She was honored with the association’s “Recognition of Dedicated Service” in 1994. The dedicated educator is an alumna of Seton Hill University, from which she earned a bachelor’s degree in history. Sister Catherine earned a master’s degree in education from Duquesne University and a master’s degree in theology from Wheeling Jesuit University.

In reflection of her 50 years of religious life, Sister Catherine said, “I believe that I was called by Our Lord to be a Sister of Charity. The call was not accompanied by a trumpet blast or an extraordinary experience; rather, it was a growing conviction that this was what God wanted of me. I have been honored to work with so many good people through the years, especially children. Every ministry has been a wonderful blessing to me. How blessed I have been to have answered God’s call 50 years ago!”
