Sister Mary Elizabeth McCauley, SC
A native of Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sister Mary Elizabeth McCauley entered the Sisters of Charity from Cathedral Parish on September 8, 1961. In her 50 years of religious life, Sister Mary Elizabeth served in education, social services, andinternal ministries for the congregation.
During her 28 year tenure as an educator, Sister Mary Elizabeth taught at 12 schools in the Pennsylvania dioceses of Greensburg and Pittsburgh and the Arizona dioceses of Phoenix and Tucson. She was head teacher at Seton Hill Day Care in Greensburg, Pennsylvania from 1969-1974 and principal of Saint James School in Apollo, Pennsylvania from 1988-1991. Sister Mary Elizabeth’s social ministries include service as a social worker for Catholic Charities in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and as site manager for the Bloomfield Senior Center, Bloomfield, Pennsylvania.
Sister Mary Elizabeth has provided invaluable service to the congregation through her internal ministries. She served as administrator of the former retirement home of the Sisters of Charity, Assumption Hall, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, from 1991-1995 and as director of ancillary services at Caritas Christi, motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, from 1998-2000. She was the building supervisor at Caritas Christi, from 2000-2006.
For the past five years, Sister Mary Elizabeth’s major responsibilities have been in records management for the Sisters of Charity human resources office at DePaul Center, Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Sister Mary Elizabeth enjoys using her organizational skills to maintain employment records and process important documents within designated time frames. She also serves as the gift shop manager at Caritas Christi.
When looking back on her 50 years of religious life, Sister Mary Elizabeth reflects, “I am most grateful to God and my community for the blessings and graces that have been given to me during the past 50 years as a Sister of Charity.”
