Sisters of Charity Federation in the Vincentian-Setonian Tradition

The Sisters of Charity Federation in the Vincentian-Setonian Tradition is comprised of 13 congregations of women religious, representing more than 5,000 members, who recognize their particular character and spirit in the charism of the tradition founded by St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

The goals of the Federation include:

  • Working collaboratively to share our traditions and gifts for the good of the Gospel;
  • Participating in social, spiritual, and education experiences that strengthen our identity as a Federation;
  • Understanding and expression our common heritage rooted in Vincent, Louise, and Elizabeth as expressed in the tradition of the various member congregations.

Members of the Sisters of Charity Foundation are working collaboratively on the following actions and projects:

  • Postcard/letter-writing campaign to USAID/OIG to request increased G8 aid for hunger relief in Africa, especially to Niger.
  • Organizing and participating in Federation sponsored trips to New Orleans to clean, scrub, and paint apartments abandoned in the wake of Katrina. Joining the sisters in this mission are young men and women who may be discerning vocation.
  • Financially assisting the Sisters of Saint Antoine in Fondwa, Haiti, in the construction of a new motherhouse/formation center. This project is the second collaborative project the Federation has sponsored in Haiti, following upon the successful Makaya water project, which sought to make potable water accessible to the village of Fondwa. The Federation and the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill are working with Partners in Progress to make these two projects a reality.
